A highly regarded and well-established underground gold operation in Western Australia is seeking an experienced and committed Alternate Underground Mining Manager to support and oversee key underground mining activities. Requirements

  • WA First Class Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency;
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) or equivalent qualification preferred;
  • Significant experience in large-scale underground mining operations, particularly in mechanised, long-hole stoping;
  • Proven leadership experience in managing underground mining teams, with a strong focus on safety and operational excellence;
  • Demonstrated experience in contractor management and engaging with business partners;
  • Strong background in budget management, mine planning, and performance monitoring;
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives and deliver on long-term operational objectives;
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Position Duties:

  • Operational Oversight: Manage all aspects of underground mining operations, ensuring that production and development activities meet safety, cost, and production targets;
  • Compliance: Ensure all statutory and regulatory requirements are adhered to, in line with the WA Work Health and Safety Act & Regulations;
  • Mine Planning & Scheduling: Oversee the preparation of accurate mine schedules, forecasts, and budgets to ensure production targets are met and operations run smoothly;
  • Safety Management: Lead the safe production and development activities, prioritizing safety and addressing any safety incidents or concerns promptly;
  • Project Management: Monitor progress on development, stoping, and mining projects, ensuring alignment with monthly and quarterly production targets;
  • Business Partner & Contractor Management: Effectively manage Business Partners and short-term contractors to ensure safe and efficient operations;
  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and motivate underground mining teams to achieve operational excellence, high performance, and accountability;
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the mining operation, setting clear performance targets and ensuring they are achieved;
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams (engineering, geology, safety, environmental) to ensure integrated and effective mine planning and operations;
  • Reporting & Documentation: Ensure timely and accurate reporting of all safety, environmental, and operational incidents, taking corrective actions as necessary.
