Our client has secured further drill rigs and now requires urgent support from an experienced Resource Definition Geologist to assist with their surface RD programs at a leading Australian gold-producing operation.

Requirements:

  • Surface drilling (both RC and Diamond) experience required.  Preferentially with WA gold experience.
  • Tertiary qualification in Geology (essential); a higher degree (e.g. MSc or business-related) will be highly regarded.
  • 2+ years’ drilling experience in a mining or brownfields exploration environment.
  • A strong safety mindset and familiarity with WHS requirements on mining operations.
  • Good working knowledge of geological logging, sampling and data management.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work well in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proficiency with geological software (e.g. Surpac, Leapfrog and MS Office) is an advantage.
  • Current C Class driver’s licence 

Key aspects of the day-to-day work include:

  • Near-mine RC drill rig – daily supervision, RC chip logging, mentoring Graduate/Field Geologists, rig safety and daily reporting.
  • Near-mine RC/diamond surface drill rig – daily supervision of RC and diamond drilling, core and chip logging, mentoring Graduate/Field Geologists, rig safety and daily reporting.
  • Maintaining clear communication with site operations, contractors, Technical Services and the Senior Resource Definition Geologist.

Position Duties:

  • Assist with the planning and execution of resource definition drilling programmes.
  • Ensure high-quality sampling, logging and data entry in line with company standards.
  • Supervise contractors and drilling activities with a strong focus on safety and compliance.
  • Contribute to grade control, reconciliation and geological interpretations as required.
  • Prepare accurate daily and weekly reports on drilling progress, costs and outcomes.
