Our client is a well-established Australian gold producer seeking an experienced Senior Geologist – Resource Definition to lead near-mine/brownfields drilling and take end-to-end ownership of surface RC and diamond rig programmes. Reporting to the GM Exploration & Growth, you’ll play a key role in safely delivering drilling outcomes that drive resource upgrades, extensions and Life of Mine growth.
The role
You will lead surface RC and diamond drilling programs, ensuring rigs are operating safely, productively and in line with company standards. You’ll work closely across Exploration, Geology, Mining, Technical Services and HSEC, and provide mentoring and direction to geologists and field teams.
About you (essential)
- Tertiary qualification in Geology
- 5–7+ years’ industry experience with strong gold exposure across production and exploration
- Demonstrated experience delivering brownfields / resource definition drilling programmes
- Proven capability to supervise and manage surface RC and diamond rigs safely
- Strong contractor and field leadership skills (pre-starts, daily rig coordination, safety ownership)
- Proficiency with Leapfrog and/or Surpac and 3D drillhole visualisation tools
- Confident communicator who can provide clear guidance to operations and technical teams
- C Class driver’s licence

Position Duties:
- End-to-end management of surface drill rigs (RC + diamond): planning, set-up, daily supervision and close-out
- Own rig safety: pre-starts, hazard identification, critical controls, JHAs/JSEAs, permitting and safe work compliance
- Daily rig performance management: metres, costs, reporting, downtime reduction and contractor coordination
- RC chip logging and supervision of sampling to company workflows
- Core handling and logging oversight (core orientation, metre marks, recovery, sampling and QA/QC)
- Maintain high-quality geological outputs: accurate logs, consistent standards, timely database updates
- Use Leapfrog and/or Surpac (plus GIS/Excel) for interpretation, drillhole visualisation and reporting
- Integrate datasets (geology, geochemistry, geophysics) to refine and prioritise near-mine targets
- Mentor Graduate/Field Geologists and drive continuous improvement in procedures and turnaround times
- Prepare and deliver weekly/monthly reporting, drill programme progress updates, and technical summaries
