Caravel advances 30Mtpa copper project as DFS moves towards September

13 August 2026 | Caravel Copper Project, Western Australia

Caravel Minerals has reported further progress on the Definitive Feasibility Study for its large-scale copper project north-east of Perth, with completion targeted for September 2026 and preparation under way for the next engineering phase.

DFS moves into final workstreams

The company said the major technical packages supporting the DFS are advancing, including mine planning, process engineering, infrastructure definition, cost development and preparation of the project execution strategy.

Caravel’s current development basis includes an Ore Reserve of approximately 597 million tonnes containing about 1.42 million tonnes of copper. The study is being developed around a 30 million tonne-per-year processing operation.

Large conventional open-pit development

The project is designed as a large, long-life conventional open-pit operation. The processing concept uses crushing, grinding and flotation to produce copper concentrate, with molybdenum and precious-metal by-products contributing additional value.

Mine scheduling, major equipment definition and contracting work are being refined as the company completes the DFS. The project’s location in Western Australia’s Wheatbelt provides access to established road, power and regional infrastructure.

Preparing for FEED

Caravel is also preparing for front-end engineering design, which would move the project into a more detailed and execution-focused stage after the DFS. That phase typically develops engineering packages, procurement planning and construction readiness, although the project remains subject to approvals, financing and a final investment decision.

Workforce outlook

No specific vacancies were announced. As Caravel moves from feasibility towards FEED, likely capability requirements may include open-pit mining, technical services, project controls, engineering, contracts and procurement, approvals, construction planning and owner-team leadership.

Next steps

Caravel expects to complete the DFS in September 2026 and continue work on approvals, funding and the transition into the next engineering phase.
