New Frontier Confirms High-Grade Copper at Mt Storm Prospect

13 July 2026 | Queensland - New Frontier Minerals has reported high-grade copper assay results from fieldwork at the Mt Storm Copper Prospect, part of its NWQ Copper Project in north-west Queensland.
The May 2026 field program included geological mapping and sampling of country rock, mineralised outcrop, ex-mine dumps and in-pit grab samples.
Laboratory analysis from ALS Perth confirmed copper values from pit and dump samples ranging from 0.49% to 6.88% copper.
The highest-grade sample returned 6.88% total copper, with sequential leach analysis showing 6.83% copper in the sulphuric acid-soluble fraction. New Frontier said this indicates the copper is mainly hosted in oxide and secondary copper minerals that may be amenable to conventional acid-leach processing.
Chairman Gerrard Hall said the results were an excellent outcome, confirming the historical results that first drew the company’s attention to Mt Storm.
Why it matters: Mt Storm sits within New Frontier’s broader NWQ Copper Project in the Mount Isa Inlier, one of Australia’s most important base metals regions.
The prospect has a history of small-scale mining, with historical records indicating approximately 1,100 tonnes of ore was mined at a head grade of around 6% copper. Historical pit sampling also returned up to 10.4% copper.
The prospect is located about 8km from New Frontier’s Big One deposit and about 75km north of Austral’s Mt Kelly processing facility.
The company said copper-cobalt-gold mineralisation at Mt Storm is interpreted to be structurally controlled along a dyke contact. Importantly, there has been no drilling to test down-dip extensions.
New Frontier’s geological team is expected to return to site to complete detailed mapping, which will help guide any future drill program.
For Queensland’s copper sector, the results highlight another early-stage surface copper target in a region with established copper infrastructure and a long mining history.
