Our client is seeking an experienced Alternate Unit Manager – Underground Mining to join the leadership team at a major underground gold operation in Western Australia’s Eastern Goldfields.

Reporting to the Unit Manager – Underground Mining, you will manage and coordinate all facets of the underground operation, including mining, development, production scheduling and supporting infrastructure. You will be accountable for safely achieving short-, medium- and long-term production, cost and operational targets.

The underground mine is entering a significant growth phase, creating an opportunity to lead a large-scale mechanised operation, work through complex geological and operational challenges, and influence the continued development and future performance of the mine.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead underground mining activities to achieve safety, production, development and cost targets.
  • Monitor development, stoping and mining projects against monthly and quarterly plans.
  • Manage mine schedules, forecasts and operational performance against approved budgets.
  • Coordinate development, production stoping and infrastructure delivery across the underground operation.
  • Ensure safety, environmental and statutory reporting requirements are completed accurately and on time.
  • Manage mining contractors, business partners and short-term project teams.
  • Provide operational input into mine planning, projects, infrastructure, ventilation, survey and geotechnical requirements.
  • Work closely with technical services and operational teams to improve performance and remove production constraints.
  • Lead, mentor and develop technical, supervisory and operational personnel.
  • Promote a strong safety culture based on accountability, visible leadership and continuous improvement.

About You

You will be an experienced underground mining leader with the ability to manage people, contractors and production performance within a large-scale mechanised hard-rock mining environment.

To be considered, you will ideally possess:

  • A current Western Australian First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering.
  • Extensive underground hard-rock mining experience.
  • Proven experience in mechanised underground mining and longhole open stoping.
  • Strong knowledge of underground development, production stoping, scheduling and mine infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated accountability for safety, production, cost and operational performance.
  • Experience managing mining contractors and business partners.
  • A successful record of leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong communication, decision-making and stakeholder-management skills.
  • The ability to mentor technical, supervisory and operational personnel.
  • Australian working rights and the ability to complete all required employment and site medical checks.

The operation is a large, established Western Australian gold mine located in the Goldfields. It includes substantial underground mining activities and is supported by experienced operational, technical services and contractor teams.

The underground operation uses large-scale mechanised hard-rock mining methods, including longhole open stoping, and is undergoing continued production growth and mine-life development.
