An established underground gold mining operation in Western Australia is seeking an experienced Production Engineer to join its underground technical services team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Mining Engineer who enjoys being close to the operation and working directly with underground production teams. The position provides exposure to a technically strong engineering environment, with responsibility for delivering practical production solutions and supporting the short-term mine plan.
The successful candidate will play an important role in optimising underground production, improving mining performance and ensuring safe and effective execution of planned activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimise stope designs, drilling and blasting plans.
- Prepare long-hole drill designs and work closely with underground crews on execution.
- Develop safe work plans for development, slotting and other underground mining activities.
- Prepare production plans and monitor execution against the mine schedule.
- Work closely with Geology and Geotechnical teams to optimise mining outcomes.
- Identify opportunities to improve mining cycle times, productivity and production performance.
- Support the short-term mine planning and scheduling process.
- Monitor plan compliance and investigate production variances.
- Analyse operational data and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Assist with underground ventilation requirements and surveys.
- Provide practical engineering support to the underground mining team.
- Work closely with supervisors and contractors to ensure plans are safely and effectively implemented.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
- Previous experience in underground hard-rock mining.
- Production engineering experience within a mechanised underground operation.
- Experience with stope design, long-hole drilling and blasting.
- Strong Deswik skills.
- Good understanding of short-term mine planning and production scheduling.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with underground operations.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach to mining engineering.
- The ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to a wider technical services team.
Desirable Experience
- Underground gold mining experience.
- Long-hole open stoping.
- Ventilation experience / VentSim.
- Underground mining contractor experience.
- Experience working towards a WA First Class Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency.
