Open Pit Mining Engineer – Drill & Blast

Western Australia

We are currently seeking an experienced Mining Engineer to join the Mine Technical Services team at a well-established Western Australian mining operation.

This is a permanent opportunity for a Mining Engineer with 2–5 years' experience in open pit hard-rock mining and mine planning, ideally with exposure to lithium operations.

The role provides broad technical exposure across short-term and medium-term planning, drill & blast, mine design, contractor management and operational support.

About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, you will provide technical and operational support to the Mine Technical Services team across short and medium-term planning horizons.

You will work closely with mining operations and contractors to develop practical plans, monitor performance and ensure mining activities are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with agreed plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and support short-term mine plans, including 48-hour, 2-week and Integrated Monthly Plans
  • Provide technical input into mine planning, mine design, infrastructure and landform design
  • Complete drill & blast designs, including QA/QC
  • Assist with Integrated Quarterly Planning (IQP), Life of Mine (LOM) planning and annual budgets
  • Monitor mining contractor performance and review contractor plans for compliance and improvement
  • Assist with contractor management and commercial evaluations, including monthly claims and variations
  • Provide progress reporting and monitor performance against budgets and forecasts
  • Support mining methodology reviews and operational improvement initiatives
  • Assist with geotechnical data preparation
  • Ensure mining activities comply with relevant approvals, commitments and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in LOM and expansion studies
  • Work closely with operations and other technical disciplines to drive safe and effective mining outcomes

About You

To be successful, you will ideally have:

  • A Mining Engineering degree or equivalent qualification/industry experience
  • Drill & Blast experience
  • Experience working with or managing mining contractors
  • Strong mine planning and engineering capability
  • Experience with mining software, particularly:
    • Alastri Production & Tactical Scheduler
    • Deswik
    • ShotPlus
  • Strong commercial awareness and ability to work within budgets and tight timeframes
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • The ability to work autonomously while also contributing effectively within a technical team
  • A valid C Class Manual Driver's Licence

A WA Quarry Manager's Certificate of Competency would be highly regarded.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have a combination of mine planning and drill & blast experience, with strong practical understanding of open pit mining operations.

Candidates who are particularly strong in short-term planning/Alastri, drill & blast/ShotPlus, or Deswik mine design are encouraged to apply.

Experience in lithium or hard-rock mining will be highly regarded.
