VR8 said its scoping study considers the potential viability of producing vanadium slag and pig iron through a proposed V-Iron plant at Highveld Industrial Park, supported by an open-pit mine and concentrator at the Steelpoortdrift Project.
The company described the study as a preliminary technical and economic assessment with accuracy of approximately plus or minus 30%. It said the study is insufficient to support an Ore Reserve estimate, assure an economic development case or guarantee that its conclusions will be realised.
Under the proposed configuration, the V-Iron plant targets nameplate output of about 603,000 tonnes a year of pig iron and 65,000 tonnes a year of vanadium-rich slag. VR8 has signed a non-binding term sheet with U.S. Vanadium Holding Company LLC for 100% of the proposed plant's vanadium slag.
VR8 said that, once funding is secured, it intends to proceed directly to a V-Iron DFS without a separate pre-feasibility study. The proposed development remains subject to funding, completion of the DFS and permitting.
