OzAurum Resources has advanced early construction and site works for Stage 1 of its Mulgabbie North Gold Project, about 130 kilometres north-east of Kalgoorlie.
Two production water bores are being developed to support the proposed operation. One upgraded bore has reached a depth of 120 metres and lies within 1.5 kilometres of the planned heap-leach facility. Flow testing is planned to assess its capacity for a potential Stage 2 expansion.
Most of the heap-leach and agglomeration plant has now been moved from Henderson in Perth to a Kalgoorlie staging area close to the project. Concrete foundations for the plant installation have cured, while site access roads have been upgraded.
Site preparation
Topsoil stripping has been completed across the planned waste dump, heap-leach pad and pond areas. OzAurum said the next civil works would include excavation of about 13,000 bank cubic metres for the ponds.
The company has assembled approvals covering annual groundwater abstraction of 450,000 kilolitres, crushing and heap-leach processing at up to 150,000 tonnes a year, disturbance of less than 10 hectares, and open-pit operations.
A dangerous-goods permit remains under assessment. A related poisons permit will follow that approval, with the company describing the overall permitting program as substantially complete.
Why it matters
The movement of plant and commencement of water and civil works shift Mulgabbie North from planning towards physical development. This phase is likely to require coordinated input across civil construction, water services, plant installation, metallurgy, commissioning and mine preparation.
Mulgabbie North has a reported mineral resource containing 260,000 ounces of gold and remains open along a four-kilometre mineralised trend. The Stage 1 development is intended to establish a smaller initial operation while the company continues to assess the broader project opportunity.
Next steps
Near-term work includes production-bore testing, pond excavation, delivery of the plant from Kalgoorlie to site, and installation of the heap-leach and agglomeration equipment. Remaining dangerous-goods and poisons approvals will also need to be secured before reagent handling and processing can commence.
