Marimaca receives MOD grid connection authorization

Marimaca receives MOD grid connection authorization

The company said the Panel of Experts upheld the National Electric Coordinator's approval of its application to connect the MOD to the 110kV El Lince Line, located about 13 kilometres from the project area, following a review and challenge period.

Marimaca also said it signed a preliminary power purchase agreement framework with an energy provider in Chile for 100% renewable electricity from the national grid. The company said the agreed long-term pricing is estimated to be closely aligned with the US$93/MWh energy cost in the MOD definitive feasibility study, with a five-year initial term following the ramp-up period after construction completion.

Upgrades to the primary MOD access road are progressing and are expected by the company to be completed by the end of 2026. Marimaca said site early works remain scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter, while preparatory work for the seawater pipeline route is planned to support construction commencement in 2027.

The company said it has begun a conceptual engineering study under its non-binding memorandum of understanding with a local acid producer to assess development options for the Dos Amigos Acid Plant. Marimaca said a self-produced acid option could reduce exposure to acid-price volatility.
