Liontown approves Kathleen Valley expansion investment

Liontown Limited said its board has approved the final investment decision for the Kathleen Valley Expansion. The company approved $389 million in expansion capital, including previously announced FY27 expenditure and contingency, to be spent between FY27 and FY29.

The expansion is expected to deliver first incremental tonnes in FY28 and is targeting a five-year average of about 780,000 dry metric tonnes a year of SC5.4 spodumene concentrate from FY30, with output anticipated to exceed 800,000 dry metric tonnes in FY34. Liontown said processing design capacity would increase from about 2.8 million tonnes a year to 4.2 million tonnes a year.

Liontown said the work includes accelerated development of the Kathleen's Corner Underground and upgrades to the grinding, magnetic separation, tailings, paste plant, crushing and screening systems. Construction early works have commenced, while some activities require Western Australian environmental and water approvals. The company cautioned that its production targets and financial information include Inferred Mineral Resources and are subject to risks and uncertainties.
