Sunshine Metals announced on 8 September 2026 that refurbishment of the Mt Moss processing facility in northern Queensland is progressing to plan, with construction expected to start in October or November and commissioning targeted for mid-2027.
Site refurbishment advances
Completed work includes decommissioning magnetite-related equipment, relocating mill feed hoppers and inspecting the mill foundations. The team has also assessed and reconditioned pumps, reviewed mobile plant, fuel storage, generators and switchgear, and rehabilitated site roads and earthworks.
The site office has been recommissioned and the 30-room camp is being re-established with sewage, painting and electrical work.
Gold circuit engineering
Detech Engineering is nearing completion of the detailed design for conversion of the facility to gold processing. Piping and instrumentation diagrams are complete, and long-lead procurement has begun for the elution circuit and gold room.
Tender packages are being prepared for local fabrication of carbon-in-leach tanks, launders, platforms, the fine ore bin and associated structural steel. Environmental work includes waste-rock characterisation, updated water and run-off sampling, and preparation of revised rehabilitation and closure documentation.
Construction program
Civil tenders covering concrete and formwork for the carbon-in-leach foundations, feed hopper, fine ore bin and mill-foundation extensions are expected to be finalised in early October. Sunshine also plans to seek supply tenders for fuel, cyanide and mill consumables.
Refurbishment of feed hoppers, conveyors and other structural elements is scheduled through November. The project is intended to provide a processing pathway for Sunshine’s Liontown gold project, with commissioning and first gold targeted for the middle of 2027.
