Koonenberry Gold has defined a series of high-priority gold and copper-gold drill targets at its wholly owned Wilga Flats Project in the Lachlan Fold Belt of New South Wales.
The 4 September 2026 announcement covers targets along the 4.2-kilometre Olaf's Trend, about 20 kilometres north of Evolution Mining's Cowal gold operation. Koonenberry said preparations for drilling are under way, with a rig secured and a permit application submitted.
Large coincident geochemical target
The main target is defined by a copper-in-soil anomaly measuring about 1.2 kilometres by 500 metres, coincident with a gold anomaly about 600 metres long and 100 metres wide. Rock-chip sampling within the broader target returned copper values of up to 1.37 per cent and 1.27 per cent.
Koonenberry combined soil geochemistry and rock-chip results with geological mapping, three-dimensional magnetic modelling and a 15.6 line-kilometre dipole-dipole induced-polarisation survey. The company said the datasets identify several priority positions for testing within the Olaf's Trend.
A separate epithermal and base-metal target is supported by historic drilling. One reported interval contained 11.33 metres at 2.05 per cent combined lead and zinc from 190.52 metres. Koonenberry's re-assaying of historic material also returned 32 metres at 0.10 grams per tonne gold from 65 metres.
Drilling preparations
The company has re-logged historic core dating from 1977 and used the new interpretation to refine its drill planning. Koonenberry expects the Wilga Flats program to follow its current Dunedoo drilling campaign, which it said is running ahead of schedule.
The Wilga Flats work remains at the exploration stage. Drilling will be required to test whether the surface and geophysical anomalies represent significant mineralisation at depth.
Operational significance
Moving into drill preparation gives the project a defined near-term field program. It may support demand for drilling services, field geology, sampling, logistics and technical supervision as the program begins, although the company has not announced specific vacancies.
