Clean TeQ Water has secured a front-end engineering design and early works contract for the scandium recovery circuit at Sunrise Energy Metals' Syerston Scandium Project near Fifield in central-west New South Wales.
Announced on 4 September 2026, the award covers engineering work for the project's continuous Resin-in-Pulp ion-exchange circuit and downstream scandium refinery. The scope builds on preliminary testwork and engineering that Clean TeQ Water previously completed for Sunrise.
FEED and early works scope
The FEED component is valued at approximately $2.0 million excluding GST and will be delivered on a schedule-of-rates basis. Clean TeQ Water expects the revenue to be earned substantially during the 2027 financial year.
The contract also includes a provisional sum of about $3.4 million excluding GST for long-lead equipment and other early works. Sunrise can release those items in tranches at its election. If every provisional item proceeds, the total engagement would be worth about $5.4 million, although Clean TeQ Water stressed there is no assurance that all or any of the provisional sum will be released.
The engineering package centres on Clean TeQ Water's MBIX technology, which uses a continuous Resin-in-Pulp process to recover scandium. The downstream refinery is intended to convert the recovered material into a refined scandium product.
Why the award matters
The move from preliminary engineering into FEED and early works provides a clearer path for defining the equipment, design and execution requirements of the recovery circuit. It also creates near-term work across process engineering, project controls, procurement and specialist equipment supply, while any broader construction or operational requirements remain subject to Sunrise progressing the project.
Syerston is located in central-west New South Wales and is being advanced by Sunrise Energy Metals as a scandium-focused development. The latest award relates specifically to the scandium recovery and refining package and should not be read as a full project construction decision.
Next steps
Clean TeQ Water will now undertake the FEED work and prepare the long-lead packages that Sunrise may release progressively. The timing and value of those packages will depend on Sunrise's elections under the contract.
