PTR mining study highlights early high-grade access at Rosewood

PTR Minerals announced on 3 September 2026 that preliminary mining and metallurgical studies have identified a potential pathway to access high-grade material early at the Rosewood Titanium Project in South Australia.

Rosewood forms part of the broader Muckanippie Project in the northern Gawler Craton. PTR said the latest work will feed into a scoping study that is now at an advanced stage.

Mining study tests four throughput cases

AMC Consultants completed preliminary mine optimisation and scheduling across four processing-throughput scenarios. The work indicated that mine sequencing could provide early access to zones grading around 17 per cent heavy mineral, of which more than 92 per cent is valuable heavy mineral.

The deposit is shallow and is being assessed for conventional dry open-pit mining. Under the preliminary scenarios, mineralised material would be mined to a run-of-mine stockpile before being slurried and pumped to a wet concentrator.

At the study's RF50 basis, the scenarios produced indicative mine lives of 22 to 35 years and average life-of-mine plant feed grades of 12 to 16 per cent heavy mineral. PTR cautioned that the optimisation work is preliminary, is not yet a scoping study and does not support a production target or Ore Reserve.

Wet concentration testwork simplifies the options

Mineral Technologies also completed metallurgical and process-engineering work on a three-tonne bulk sample. The testwork produced a leucoxene product grading 66.4 per cent titanium dioxide using wet concentration without the additional dry-separation stage previously contemplated.

The wet concentrator flowsheet recovered 81 per cent of the plus-53-micron valuable heavy mineral to final products. PTR will continue testing both wet-only and wet-and-dry processing options while engaging potential customers on product specifications and market acceptance.

Next steps and workforce relevance

PTR said the principal technical workstreams for the Rosewood scoping study are substantially complete, with current activity focused on final reviews, optimisation and integration into the financial model. Environmental and permitting work is also progressing.

The study program is relevant to future planning across open-pit mining, mineral-sands processing, metallurgy, project engineering, environment and approvals. PTR has not announced vacancies, and any construction or operating workforce requirements remain dependent on further studies, approvals, funding and a development decision.
