Javelin Minerals has received final mining approval for the Eureka Gold Project near Kalgoorlie, with Western Australia’s Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration approving the Mining Development and Closure Proposal. The company says Eureka is now shovel-ready, with all required approvals, its mine plan and development pathway in place.
Approval completes the permitting pathway
The approval follows the grant of clearing and water permits and covers the planned Eureka and Eureka Northwest open pits. Javelin reports a global JORC Mineral Resource of 2.04 million tonnes at 1.69 grams per tonne gold for 110,687 ounces. This includes an Indicated Resource of 1.36 million tonnes at 1.8 grams per tonne for 78,678 ounces.
Recent reverse-circulation drilling focused mainly on areas of lower drill coverage within 80 metres of surface. The program confirmed mineralised zones within the planned Eureka open-pit cutback and extended known higher-grade mineralisation at the northern end of the proposed Eureka Northwest pit. Javelin plans diamond tails to test the northern, down-plunge extensions of the main orebody.
Services and funding arrangements progress
Javelin has a Right to Mine agreement with Goldfields mining services provider MEGA Resources covering geological, engineering, mining and transport services. Under that arrangement, MEGA is also expected to provide $25 million in project financing to fund Eureka into production and positive cashflow, subject to execution of an ore purchase agreement.
Discussions are continuing with nearby mill operators, with Javelin aiming to commence ore processing as soon as practicable. The company has not disclosed a firm mining start date in this announcement.
Project work moves closer to site
Final approval removes a key regulatory step, but the development schedule remains dependent on the outstanding commercial arrangements and their execution. If those steps are completed and mining proceeds, Eureka could support activity across open-pit operations, geology, engineering, haulage and site services. No workforce numbers or recruitment timetable were announced.
