Arrow Minerals has agreed to acquire a 70% interest in a West Pilbara iron-ore project containing more than two kilometres of mapped channel-iron mineralisation at surface, adding 319 square kilometres of prospective tenure beside its Yarraloola copper project.
The initial acquisition covers exploration licence application E08/3668. Leeuwin Metals subsidiary Voyage Minerals has also granted Arrow a 12-month option to acquire a 70% interest in two additional licence applications, E08/3719 and E08/3777.
Target close to established operations
The target area is less than 15 kilometres from the 65-million-tonne-per-annum Robe River Joint Venture iron-ore operations and is crossed by the North West Coastal Highway. Historical explorers identified direct-shipping-grade channel-iron mineralisation at surface, with a mapped strike length of more than two kilometres and width of more than 250 metres.
Arrow says the mineralised unit remains concealed by cover in each direction. The company also sees potential for the tenement to test the south-eastern continuation of stratigraphy associated with the Ava copper-gold volcanogenic massive sulphide target on its adjoining Yarraloola ground.
Deal structure
Arrow will issue Leeuwin Metals $125,000 worth of shares for the 70% interest in E08/3668. If it exercises the option over the additional licences, it will issue a further $125,000 worth of shares.
Leeuwin will retain a 30% free-carried interest until completion of a bankable feasibility study and a decision to mine. At that point, Leeuwin may contribute to retain its interest or dilute to a 1.5% gross-smelter-return royalty.
Next steps
Arrow intends to drill-test the channel-iron target as soon as practical after completion of the acquisition. Results will help the company decide whether to exercise its option over the two additional tenement applications.
The acquisition is still exploration-stage and the licences are applications, so tenure, drilling, approvals and economic studies remain necessary before any mine-development decision. In the near term, the work could add field exploration and drilling activity in an established Pilbara mining corridor.
