We are currently seeking an experienced Drill & Blast Engineer for a short-term contract with a well-established Western Australian mining operation.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced open pit Drill & Blast Engineer to join a technically challenging operation and provide short-term coverage while the client recruits for a permanent appointment.
The Role
Working closely with the Technical Services and Mining teams, you will be responsible for supporting the planning, design and execution of drilling and blasting activities.
The operation has a technically complex blasting environment, making this role particularly suited to someone with strong open pit experience and exposure to vibration management and highwall control.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimise drill and blast designs and patterns
- Coordinate and support drill and blast activities
- Monitor blast performance, fragmentation and compliance
- Manage and monitor blast-related vibration
- Provide technical input into highwall management and control
- Work closely with mining operations and other technical services disciplines
- Analyse blast results and identify opportunities for improvement
- Ensure blasting activities are undertaken safely and in accordance with site requirements
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- A degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline
- Strong open pit mining experience
- Proven Drill & Blast Engineering experience
- Experience with vibration monitoring and management
- Experience with highwall management and controlled blasting
- Strong technical and analytical skills
- Good communication and stakeholder management skills
- The ability to work effectively in a production-focused mining environment
