Our client, a growing Western Australian gold company, is seeking an experienced Exploration Project Geologist to join its technical team at an expanding project in the Leonora region.
This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of exploration programs across a substantial tenement package, working from target generation and drill planning through to execution, interpretation and resource development. The project is advancing from exploration towards mining, allowing the successful candidate to directly influence future discoveries and project growth.
Position Duties
- Plan, coordinate and supervise RC, diamond and aircore drilling programs
- Manage drilling contractors, field crews, schedules and daily exploration activities
- Complete geological logging of drill chips and diamond core
- Interpret geological, structural and geochemical datasets
- Generate, assess and prioritise exploration targets
- Coordinate sampling programs and maintain appropriate QA/QC standards
- Monitor exploration expenditure, schedules and contractor performance
- Assist with resource definition and resource development programs
- Prepare technical reports, presentations and exploration updates
- Work closely with Mining, Technical Services and Environmental teams
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior geological personnel
- Maintain high safety and environmental standards across all exploration activities
Experience and Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in Geology, Applied Geology, Earth Sciences or a related discipline
- Previous experience as a Project Geologist or senior exploration geologist
- Strong understanding of greenstone-hosted orogenic gold systems
- Proven experience planning and supervising exploration drilling programs
- Strong geological logging, interpretation and target-generation skills
- Experience managing drilling contractors and field exploration activities
- Sound knowledge of sampling methodologies and exploration QA/QC
- Ability to interpret geological, structural and geochemical information
- Experience using geological modelling and GIS software
- Strong report-writing, communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work autonomously while contributing to a collaborative technical team
- Current Australian C-class driver’s licence
- Unrestricted Australian working rights
Experience with Micromine and QGIS is preferred, while exposure to Leapfrog and ioGas would also be beneficial.
